Your role as an intern

Your role as a volunteer will be to assist the staff meet the children's development and social needs. The children require a lot of support and stimulation to learn through play and social interaction.

General responsibility: Assisting in the sports project in Soccer/Football, Yoga or Physical Education.

  • Travel to the children’s facilities around the community with the project team

  • Help to set up structured sports activities

  • Help to set up larger weekend sports clubs supervising 30+ children

  • Encourage new ideas and new strategies for the children’s development

  • Overseeing the children during sports activities

Why this is important

Many of the children have special needs, disabilities and come from disadvantaged homes. These activities keep a lot of the children off the streets and focused on extracurricular activities where they can join teams, play with others and achieve their goals.

Much deserved funds are desperately needed to help the centres progress and reach their full potential. Fundraise to donate directly to the project for extra equipment example: balls, shoes, sports equipment.

How will you get around?

The project is located in the outskirts of Arusha city (approximately 45 mins by public transport at $0.45c). The project is aimed at reaching the poorest communities and children who would benefit the most from this initiative. For your placement, you will travel like a local and walk or take public transport to the various pre-schools or children’s sports clubs you’ll be working with each week. You will need to set a small budget aside for this (around $1 per day by local minibuses, 4 to 5 days per week).
